The Southern African Development Community (SADC) plans to send 16 election observation teams to monitor the general elections that will take place on 9 October, Radio Mozambique (RM) reported on Friday 28 June .
According to the organisation, the information was provided by the SADC Electoral Council during a meeting with journalists held on Thursday (27) in Maputo to discuss the pre-election political and security situation, the legal framework and the preparation of electoral bodies for the elections.
According to information released by RM, these teams will start arriving in Mozambique in mid-September and will be distributed throughout all the country’s provinces, including the Cabo Delgado region.
The SADC mission will be particularly focussed on the provinces of origin of the four candidates for the Presidency of the Republic, as well as the largest and most contested constituencies
It should be noted that this decision was made public days after the Constitutional Council (CC), the sovereign body responsible for administering justice in matters of a legal-constitutional nature and electoral litigation in Mozambique, validated four candidates out of a total of 11 submissions for the presidential elections.
