According to a statement released by the Presidency of the Republic, Daniel Chapo called on nurses to reinforce their commitment to more humanized healthcare, ensuring that “no one is left behind.”

“The Government remains committed to strengthening the health sector, gradually improving the working conditions of healthcare professionals, expanding training, humanizing services, and valuing nurses, recognizing the central role they play in the country’s development,” the presidential message states.

The President of the Republic also stressed that nursing represents “a true mission of solidarity, humanity, and commitment to life,” reiterating the need for hospital care that is closer to patients and more efficient.

The celebration of International Nurses Day comes amid ongoing challenges within the National Health System, at a time when healthcare professionals continue to demand better working conditions, increased human resources, more training, and improvements to hospital infrastructure.

Over the past four years, the health sector has been marked by successive strikes and work stoppages organized by the Association of United and Supportive Health Professionals of Mozambique (APSUSM), mainly focused on salary demands and working conditions.

At the same time, the Mozambican Medical Association (AMM) has also organized several labor stoppages over the past three years in protest against the deterioration of working conditions in the sector.
