Parliament Reviewed 185 Petitions Regarding Labor Disputes Between February and March

The Committee on Petitions, Complaints, and Grievances of the Assembly of the Republic revealed that, between February and March, it reviewed 185 petitions and complaints regarding labor disputes and social security.

According to information presented by the committee chair, Válter Paulo, Parliament also reviewed 60 petitions and complaints related to the social sector, followed by 27 cases regarding land use and development, 14 concerning housing and urban planning, and two related to mining.

“Of the 185 petitions, about 59 are new and another 126 were carried over from previous periods, with 37 from the Central and Northern regions and 111 from southern Mozambique. Parliament wants to request information from the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding 20 petitions related to the administration of justice, proposing the dismissal of four for demonstrating that their claims are illegal,” he stated.

Válter Paulo stated that of the total petitions reviewed, the committee seeks to close at least eight, as it considers them resolved, and proposes closing another five due to “withdrawals” by the petitioner or unjustified failure to appear at the hearing; in other cases, closure was determined due to “repetition of the subject matter of the request without introducing new elements.”

“The commission is requesting material and financial resources to conduct the hearings, so that it can travel to the petitioners’ locations to hold the necessary hearings in all provinces,” he added.

The official also noted that “commission members feel there is a need for specific training in legal matters and other cross-cutting issues, as well as for the exchange of experiences with parliaments that have similar commissions.”
