Parliament approved on Thursday, 3 August, in general and by consensus, the proposal to revise the Labour Law, which aims to guarantee new rights, duties and protection for workers and employers.
Speaking to MPs in the Assembly of the Republic, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Margarida Talapa, acknowledged that the current law is out of step with the current reality of the country, even harming the worker himself.
“Labour Law 23/2007, of 1 August, is out of step with the emergency that is taking place in the national territory with the entry into operation of new sectors of activity, such as mining and oil, which do not allow the application of the current working hours regimes,” she said.
The proposal contains 11 chapters, 273 articles, of which 99 are innovations, 11 completely new and 88 improved, and the leader pointed out that the new law includes the introduction of a provision on harassment, its concept, characterisation and penalties.
“There is also the emergence of new modalities of service provision, namely teleworking and the alternation regime”, she revealed.
