Overtime Will Be Paid to Teachers, Health Professionals and Other Employees

The payment of overtime owed to teachers, health professionals and other state employees will begin this week. This was announced by the Mozambican government spokesman, Inocêncio Impissa.

Following the wave of work stoppages by teachers and health professionals, the government spokesman guarantees that funds will be available to pay the overtime owed for more than two years.

‘For this particular phase, around 1.1 billion meticals will be paid, that’s what will be done in this first part. In the second phase there will be, I believe, 400 million meticals, which is the part that completes 1.5 billion meticals, which is what the government has actually set for the 100 days. However, we are clear that for this year the idea is that the payments, the effort that the government is going to make is for the overtime payments to be paid immediately in the following month, which is to avoid creating debts or accumulating debts for the future,’ said Inocêncio Impissa.

Inocêncio Impissa also said that the payment, which begins this week, also includes suppliers of goods and services to the state.

‘We have therefore announced 1.5 billion meticals for this first phase as well. In this case it has to do with those expenses that the government itself had already noted and approved,’ concluded the Mozambican government spokesman.

The payment of overtime to health and education professionals will take place in two phases, the first in the first 100 days of government, and the second from April onwards.
