General Protests: Nyusi Stresses That ‘Unity Is Essential’ In Troubled Times

The Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, said on Friday 15 November that as a nation, Mozambican has already overcome numerous challenges, but we must continue.

‘As a nation, we have overcome challenges and we must continue on this path, but we must remember that if, at every moment, our commitment to peace is put to the test, our resilience grows and we emerge ever stronger,’ he said, quoted by Agência de Informação de Moçambique.

The statesman explained that in troubled and challenging times, unity becomes not only important, but essential. ‘Our future, our nation, our families and our children are calling for each one of us to take another step forward, with dedication and hope,’ said Filipe Nyusi, who was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 10th Joint Staff Course and 13th Senior Officer Promotion Course at the “Lieutenant General Armando Emílio Guebuza” Higher Institute for Defence Studies (ISEDEF).

During their training, the recent graduates benefited from professional internships in the country and abroad, including South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

The training also included an internship at the Northern Operational Command in Cabo Delgado province, which exposed the graduates to a real-life scenario of counter-terrorism operations.

On the occasion, the head of state said that the better prepared the military are, the better able they will be to face the risks and threats to Mozambique’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. ‘Once again, we are fulfilling the goal that the path to professionalisation for the Mozambican Armed Defence Forces involves continuous training, improving and assimilating new knowledge and experiences in the military arts and sciences,’ he said.
