Four months after the train circulation was paralysed due to the destruction of the Cuamba-Lichinga railway line in Niassa, the locomotive will return to make connections from next Tuesday (25).
The section was damaged by tropical cyclone Freddy in March this year and the works for its rehabilitation have already been completed.
According to Corredor de Desenvolvimento de Norte (CDN), the company responsible for railway infrastructure in the northern region of the country, the work consisted of replacing the 200-metre embankment on the bridge over the Lugenda River, laying ballast, resettling the line and sleepers that were displaced and laying stones.
The analyst and Institutional Relations specialist at CDN, Tomás Macubela, said that, “at the moment, small touch-ups are being made”, and the company is carrying out a real survey of the losses it had during this period of paralysis.
