The Niassa provincial government, in partnership with the Agro-Industrial and Commercial Association of Niassa (AAIGICON) and the Mozambican Chamber of Commerce (CCM), is holding the first Investment Forum to be held in that part of the country on 10 November.
Taking place under the theme of “Agriculture & Energy as Factors that Boost Development in Niassa Province”, the event is the result of initiatives that have been carried out with the aim of promoting sustainable economic growth.
According to a note from the organisers published on Monday 23 October by Semanário Económico, the debates will focus on two main priority areas, namely agriculture and agribusiness and energy infrastructures.
“The agricultural potential makes Niassa unique, particularly in agriculture with even organic crops, which today the world is very much looking for and at very attractive prices for the producer. The forests that exist in this part of the country are a window of opportunity to be exploited and capitalised on,” explained those responsible.
However, they also pointed out that “the poor expansion of the electricity grid in the communities of the province is a challenge”, stressing that “with increased investment, the existing natural resources can help fulfil the electrification agenda promoted by the government as part of the Energy for All project”.
The organisers considered that “by highlighting the adversities and competitiveness factors identified, the holding of the Investment Forum is considered a unique opportunity to mobilise investment in the province”.
