The government, with the support of the World Bank, will disburse a total of 5 million dollars to boost development in five communities located in the district of Sanga, in Niassa province, northern Mozambique, as part of the Northern Mozambique Rural Resilience Project (MOZNorte).
According to the coordinator of MozNorte, Aníbal António, the initiative will last 23 months, during which time social infrastructure, a solar energy system, 11 water supply systems, dormitories and workshops will be built.
He emphasised that the main aim is to promote the preservation and development of natural resources, ensuring the socio-economic stability of the people living in the remote areas.
‘The project aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people living in the north of the country, especially in 18 districts, some of which host part of the population displaced from the districts directly affected by the military insecurity caused by terrorists in Cabo Delgado province,’ he emphasised.
He said that MozNorte is part of the Executive’s and partners’ strategy to reduce rural poverty, the social and economic gap between the population (especially women and young people), and increase food security by increasing agricultural income. It also aims to boost livelihoods and generate self-employment.
