Niassa: Daniel Chapo Calls for Strengthened Vigilance and Unity Against Terrorism in the North of the Country

The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, on Thursday, 4 December, in Cuamba, Niassa Province, called for strengthened vigilance and closer collaboration with the authorities in combating terrorism, which continues to affect some regions in the north of the country, particularly the provinces of Cabo Delgado and Nampula. The Head of State stated that security and peace must remain “permanent priorities for all communities.”

During a meeting with community leaders, religious figures, veterans and other influential personalities from the Cuamba district, as part of his visit to Niassa, Daniel Chapo highlighted the importance of the direct involvement of these structures in maintaining public order. He emphasised that these social actors play a central role in promoting community stability.

According to the Head of State, community leaders, religious leaders and veterans are an essential pillar in preserving peace, which is why he considers it crucial to integrate them into decision-making processes. He argued that solutions to local problems must be built in a participatory and inclusive manner, ensuring more effective responses adapted to the reality of each community.

“But what we want to hear is the issue related to security and peace. How are we doing in our communities and, if there is any problem, how can we solve it together, so we can live in peace and security and thus develop our country in peace and security,” said Daniel Chapo, reinforcing his call for ongoing dialogue.

The President reiterated that the fight against terrorism requires heightened vigilance from the population and stressed that community stability is an indispensable condition for national development. His intervention sought to encourage more active cooperation between citizens and local authorities.

Meanwhile, this Friday, Daniel Chapo will preside in Maputo, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces, over the opening of the 26th Coordinating Council of the Ministry of National Defence. The meeting takes place at a time when national security continues to be at the forefront of the Government’s priorities.

According to a note from the Presidency of the Republic, the presence of the Head of State at the event reinforces his commitment to strengthening institutional capacity in the defence sector, highlighting the priority nature of combating terrorism and protecting national sovereignty.
