The new toll rates nationwide will come into effect this Thursday, May 15, following a decision announced by the government, aimed at alleviating the cost of living for citizens and addressing concerns raised by users.
According to the Road Fund, the revision of the toll rates comes after a period of public protests, during which acts of vandalism were reported at some toll collection infrastructures. The new measure includes a reduction in the charges, benefiting particularly the transporters and residents of areas surrounding the toll stations.
The director of the Revenue and Toll Service at the Road Fund stated that the revision aims to ease the financial burden on frequent users, contributing to the improvement of living conditions for the affected populations.
Among the changes introduced, the creation of a fixed monthly toll for residents of areas near toll stations stands out, allowing them to pay a more affordable fee given their intensive use of these infrastructures.
Despite the reduction, the government’s decision has not yet generated consensus among users, with some sectors of society considering the revision insufficient given the challenges faced.
