The new government, through the Ministry of National Defence, called this Thursday (23) for the presentation of concrete proposals to strengthen the Armed Defence Forces of Mozambique (FADM). The demand was made by Minister Cristóvão Chume, during the opening of the first session of the Consultative Council of the Ministry of National Defence, in Maputo, according to the newspaper Noticias.
In his speech, Chume stressed the need to adjust the structure and functioning of the sector to the current and future demands of national security and defence.
‘Our priority is to effectively serve the interests of those we represent as agents of the Mozambican state. To do this, we need practical solutions that directly impact citizens, officials and military personnel on mission,’ he said.
The meeting was attended by national directors, advisors and representatives of the Mozambican Defence Forces, as well as the civil service.
The minister also emphasised that a functional analysis of the sector is crucial to identifying points for improvement and implementing changes that make the system more efficient and in line with the challenges facing the country.
The meeting of the Consultative Council was characterised by debates on strategies and concrete measures to strengthen the operational capacity of the FADM, guarantee better conditions for the military and ensure a more efficient public service that is closer to the citizens.
