Nampula: Salary Delays Lead 600 Angoche Municipal Workers to Strike

More than 600 employees of the Angoche municipality, in Nampula province, are on an indefinite strike. The work stoppage results from delayed salary payments and the non-fulfillment of other labor rights.

According to the workers, they have now gone seven consecutive months without receiving salaries. The situation is described as “unsustainable” and directly affects the livelihood of their families. The strikers report that the municipality has offered no concrete responses, prompting the decision to proceed with the strike.

In addition to overdue salaries, the employees denounced the lack of payment of arrears under the Single Salary Table (TSU), noting that these amounts have never been regularized, a situation that has further fueled discontent among municipal workers.

The workers also complained about the non-payment of the 13th salary. According to the strikers, this benefit was not paid in 2024 and 2025, which further exacerbated the tense labor situation.

“Seven months without salaries, no TSU arrears paid, and as if that were not enough, we have gone two consecutive years, 2024 and 2025, without the 13th salary,” said one of the employees.

The strike has led to a complete halt of activities in the Angoche municipality. Among the suspended services is the collection of municipal taxes, which is beginning to worry the local population.
