The Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), in collaboration with AMVIRO and REVIMO, officially launched the “Tivoneleni” road safety campaign this week in Mozambique’s capital.
The campaign was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Eng. Amilton Alissone.
As we enter the festive season, characterized by increased mobility of people and goods, thereby escalating the risk of road accidents, we are implementing a multisectoral campaign. Initiatives like this one from AMVIRO, for which we have the privilege of launching, are integral,” stated the Deputy Minister during his address.
The campaign will unfold in two dimensions: the broadcast of a compelling nationwide advertisement with a powerful musical message promoting road safety and an activation in the busiest areas of Greater Maputo, carried out by AMVIRO activists in collaboration with REVIMO.
“The campaign stems from a musical challenge, an MPDC initiative with AMVIRO as a partner, held in October. Eighty-three national artists applied with original songs addressing road safety. The winning artist and the second and third most voted artists by the public now become the faces and voices of this campaign, airing from today,” explained Soraia Abdula, MPDC’s Communication and Image Manager.
Alexandre Nhampossa, President of AMVIRO, emphasized the campaign’s significance during this time of the year. “We know that there is increased movement of people and vehicles, some fatigue, and potential excesses that can lead to incidents involving vehicles and pedestrians. Our activists, trained by the Mozambique Republic Police, will intervene in high-traffic areas to raise awareness among drivers and pedestrians.”
The Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications also issued an appeal: “It is our conviction that the issue of road safety should not be seen as a problem exclusive to the Government. This is everyone’s problem, and everyone is called upon to intervene.”
