MozParks, Mozambique’s manager and promoter of Sustainable Economic Zones, participated in the 2nd International Conference on Infrastructure and Investment in Special Economic Zones, held in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, reinforcing its engagement in regional cooperation and discussions aimed at driving investment, trade, and industrial development across the continent.
According to a statement cited by Club of Mozambique, the company was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Onório Manuel, who took part in a panel dedicated to cross-border collaboration through spatial development.
During the session, participants examined ways in which African countries can strengthen cooperation to boost trade, attract investment, and capitalise on opportunities created by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Much of the discussion centred on a challenge common to African countries: deepening market integration, facilitating cross-border business expansion, and converting regional opportunities into tangible economic growth.
In his remarks, Onório Manuel underscored the importance of the economic relationship between Mozambique and South Africa in advancing industrialisation.
“Mozambique and South Africa have always shared a very strong economic relationship, and there is still significant potential to strengthen that partnership through industrialisation,” he said.
He added that “our focus must be on creating an environment in which businesses can grow, jobs are created, and communities benefit from economic activity,” arguing that strong industrial sectors are fundamental to sustainable economic growth.
According to Onório Manuel, “Special Economic Zones are an important part of that process, creating the conditions that allow industries to grow and contribute to national development.”
For MozParks, participation in the conference formed part of the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen dialogue with regional stakeholders and contribute to discussions shaping the future of economic zones and industrial development across Africa.
