Mozambique will have a National Surgical Centre, a modern facility that will be built on the grounds of Maputo Central Hospital (HCM).
The information was shared this Saturday, 5 October, by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, during the inauguration of the Massinga District Hospital, in the southern province of Inhambane, in Mozambique.
‘We want to share on this occasion that my government, in partnership with the government of the People’s Republic of China, has come to the conclusion that we are going to build a National Surgical Centre for Mozambique and it will be at Maputo Central Hospital,’ said the statesman, quoted by the Mozambican Information Agency.
According to the President of the Republic, the centre, whose construction preparations have already begun, includes a new eight-storey building, 14 operating theatres, with a capacity for 475 beds, and is budgeted at around 2.6 billion meticais (42 million dollars).
‘It will be one of the largest health infrastructures in the country, and will include emergency services, medical emergencies, intensive care, an operating theatre, surgical and orthopaedic wards, as well as offices for administrative services, rooms for communication and information technology equipment, security and fire-fighting systems,’ Nyusi stressed.
The statesman added that ‘we will continue to work until the last minute for its realisation’.
The construction of the National Surgical Centre was agreed during the head of state’s recent visit to China.
