The Maputo City Government is attracting new national and foreign investors to explore the potentialities and opportunities of investment in various sectors of activity.
For this purpose, the Secretary of State of Maputo City, Vicente Joaquim, presented recently, at the Maputo International Exhibition (FACIM), the potentialities and opportunities of investment in the sectors of agriculture, fishing, tourism, industry, commerce and transport.
The Secretary of State considers that this fair is a reference point at the country level for the exposition of the potentialities and economic opportunities in order to attract national and foreign investment with the purpose of promoting business development and establishment of business partnerships.
According to the minister, the city of Maputo is the country’s main financial, corporate and commercial centre and concentrates most of the services and headquarters of large economic groups and companies, both public and private.
According to the source, despite having just 3.8 percent of the country’s population, the city is responsible for 18.5 percent of Mozambique’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in which the trade, transport, communications and manufacturing sectors are the most significant.
He also added that Maputo city has the country’s biggest port and the second biggest on the east coast of Africa, has the country’s biggest airport and one of the biggest in the region, with direct flights to the entire country, the region, Europe and the Middle East, concentrates most tourism ventures, as well as having paradise beaches in KaNyaka Municipal district.
“In the agriculture component our city has one thousand and three hundred hectares of arable land, where various crops are produced throughout the year with emphasis on vegetables such as cabbage, lettuce, spinach, beetroot carrot among others,” he said.
He added that in the industry component, the city has the chemical, food, recording, metallurgical and furniture industry, thus becoming the business centre par excellence.
“It is in this context, that this fair is of extreme importance for us , because it is a sublime opportunity for us to expose the various potentialities that our city has for the country and for the world.
Therefore, we would like to invite all national and foreign businesspeople and entrepreneurs to invest in the city, as they will find a better business environment,” he stressed.
He also appealed, since the fair takes place at a time when the country as a whole and the city are facing the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, which challenges each of us to redouble our efforts towards individual and collective prevention.
