Mozambique Seeks New Methods for Identifying Early Warning of Cyclones

In light of the visit of the President of the Republic to Finland, Radio Mozambique reported on Thursday, 17 November, that the Mozambican government is exploring new methods of identifying early warnings of cyclones.

It was in this context that the head of state, Filipe Nyusi, visited the VARSLA Corporation, a company producing cyclone early warning radars, in Helsinki, Finland, on Thursday.

During the presentation of the services, President Nyusi was impressed with what he saw given that it was the same company that installed the early warning system in Beira, Sofala province.

The Mozambican Minister of Business and Cooperation, Veronica Macamo, said that “the country is concerned, and seeks solutions to avoid the effects of natural disasters that cyclically affect the country.

As part of Thursday’s visit to Finland, President Filipe Nyusi visited a teacher training centre of the University of Helsinki, as well as the VARSLA company, which set up the Ressano Garcia Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTRG) in Maputo province.

The CTRG produces electricity from gas, and the government is interested in partnerships on energy transition mechanisms.
