Mozambique has just been re-elected by the Board of Directors of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), to continue developing the Compact II programme.
Mozambican authorities refer to the decision as a testament to the vitality of the partnership that Mozambique and MCC have built over the years, and evidence of the progress that has been made in strengthening economic policies and investment that focuses on the people.
The Compact II programme advocates assistance to the development of rural infrastructures such as roads, agricultural support programmes, the creation of conditions for the resilience of coastal populations, through the protection and recovery of ecosystems and the re-establishment of mangrove forests in Zambézia province, and the possibility of support to other infrastructures for development such as the EN 1, as well as institutional reform and national policies.
It is recalled that on the sidelines of the participation in the COP 27, in Sharm El Sheikh, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, received in audience, Alice Albright, Chairperson of the Executive Committee of MCC, and on the occasion, both welcomed the progress in the preparation of the Compact II.
“The Government of Mozambique remains committed to the process of reforms, combating corruption, strengthening the rule of law and the observance of fundamental rights of citizens. The Government of Mozambique and the MCC are committed to deepening the partnership to achieve an ambitious, innovative and transformative Compact programme in Mozambique,” said the statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic.
The statement said that Mahmoud Bah, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of MCC is expected to visit Mozambique soon.
