Mozambique Plans to Install Free Internet in 310 Public Schools by 2030

Mozambique will make free Internet available in 310 public schools by 2030, with the aim of promoting access to technology in rural areas. The information was announced this Saturday (29) by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo during the launch of the ‘Internet for All by 2030’ project in Nampula, in the north of the country, where he has been on a working visit since Thursday.

According to the president, quoted by Lusa, the initiative aims to massify broadband access, with a special focus on schools located in rural areas. ‘With this offer, the aim is to enable pupils and teachers to make the most of technology for learning and professional growth,’ Chapo explained.

The initiative will also benefit the schools’ neighbouring communities. ‘The implementation of the Internet in Schools project aims to contribute to digital inclusion and universal access to the Internet, developing connections that cover rural areas,’ added the President.

Chapo also stressed that the success of the programme depends on continued access to quality electricity and the availability of appropriate technologies. ‘We’re talking about computers, tablets and mobile phones, both in educational establishments and in the academic community,’ he stressed.

In addition, the President called for responsibility for infrastructure maintenance. ‘We must all take responsibility for looking after the schools, because the computers installed there are for our children to be able to study and guarantee Mozambique’s future,’ he concluded.
