Mozambique Participates in the Standing Committee Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation

Mozambique is participating this Monday (15) in Turkey at the 24th working group meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The two-day event brings together representatives from member states to discuss development programs and economic and trade projects, according to Rádio Moçambique (RM).

Among the central topics are the development programs and projects for tourism in member countries, as well as the organization’s action plans for the coming years. The meeting aims to strengthen cooperation among member states through initiatives that promote sustainable growth and economic opportunities.

The country is represented by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fredson Bakar, who, during a stopover in Johannesburg, South Africa, shared Mozambique’s expectations for the meeting, emphasizing the country’s intention to highlight its experience in promoting sustainable tourism and valuing cultural heritage.

Mozambique’s intervention is expected to underline the importance of cultural heritage for tourism, addressing aspects such as local identity, preservation, economic sustainability, authenticity, and education. “Cultural heritage is an essential asset for promoting tourism and must be valued responsibly,” said the Secretary of State.

For Mozambique, preserving historical heritage is a global concern of utmost importance, crucial to safeguarding the history and culture of society. The country intends to share best practices and learn from other members about conservation and tourism development strategies.

The meeting is held under the theme: “Enhancing the Quality and Sustainability of Heritage Tourism in OIC Member States”, highlighting the OIC’s commitment to promoting tourism that values cultural authenticity and ensures lasting economic benefits for local communities.

Mozambique’s participation in this forum reinforces the country’s position in international cooperation, aligning its tourism and economic development policies with global standards. The meeting also provides an opportunity to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations with other member states of the organization.
