Mozambique will carry out the second round of the National Vaccination Campaign against the Type 2 Polio Variant from July 8 to 12, 2025, covering all children under the age of 10 in every district of the country.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, “although the wild poliovirus outbreak was declared over in May 2024, there is still concern about the type 2 polio variant. Therefore, the Ministry of Health (MISAU) is implementing national vaccination rounds against the type 2 variant, using the nOPV vaccine, which is specifically designed to control this disease.”
The vaccination will be conducted door to door, in schools, health units, and other locations with high population density. “At the end of the second round of the campaign, the country will continue offering routine vaccination services and will carry out community surveillance and active searches for suspected cases of Acute Flaccid Paralysis,” the statement reads.
All eligible children should receive the vaccine, regardless of whether they were vaccinated during the first round or through routine immunization.
