Mozambique and Vietnam Develop Cooperation in Traditional and Herbal Medicine

The governments of Mozambique and Vietnam have revealed that in the near future they intend to establish co-operation agreements in the traditional and herbal medicine sector, so that they can develop new methods for curing various illnesses.

Speaking at a press conference to mark the end of his three-day visit to the Asian country, the head of state, Filipe Nyusi, said that it was important to valorise different technical-professional and higher education courses, stressing that guidelines had already been drawn up for exchanges between the two nations’ traditional doctors.

‘There are many clinics and homes that practice traditional medicine in Mozambique, and instead of being done randomly, they can be systematised, opening up space for hospitals to include these practices in their daily routine.

The Vietnamese have already outlined the organisation, functioning and competence of traditional doctors,’ he said.

By setting up traditional medicine courses in education, the Mozambican statesman believes that young people can contribute to research and the type of plants that should be used, since the country’s industry is still in its infancy.

‘The experience we’ve gained in Vietnam is closer to our reality, so it’s a great advantage for us to be able to bring this knowledge to Mozambique,’ he emphasised.

During his visit, Nyusi also met with Mozambican students in Vietnam, who presented some problems that concern them, especially with regard to difficulties in renewing personal documents.

According to data shared by the Agência de Informação de Moçambique, there are currently at least 54 Mozambicans in Vietnam, most of them students.

On Sunday (8), Filipe Nyusi began a three-day working visit to Vietnam at the invitation of To Lam.

During his stay in the Asian country, he met with Vietnamese leaders and businesspeople, as well as with the Mozambican community living there.
