This week in the United Arab Emirates, government officials from Mozambique and the United Arab Emirates reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in the areas of agriculture, food security, and environmental protection, as part of strengthening strategic relations between the two countries, according to a report on Thursday, February 5, by the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM).
According to the agency, the agreement was expressed during a high-level meeting between Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Fisheries, Roberto Mito Albino, and the United Arab Emirates’ Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Amna Al Dahak, on the sidelines of the Global Government Summit, which is taking place in that city.
The meeting took place at one of the most important international forums dedicated to reflecting on the future of governance, bringing together political leaders, public decision-makers, experts, and international organizations to discuss global challenges and identify sustainable solutions for economic and social development.
During the talks, the two leaders highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in the areas of agriculture and food security, considered strategic sectors for the economic resilience, social stability, and sustainable development of both countries.
Issues related to environmental protection were also analyzed, with a particular focus on biodiversity conservation and the protection of endangered species of fauna and flora, within the framework of the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
At the institutional level, the parties discussed technical capacity-building and skills enhancement initiatives, with an emphasis on the adoption of modern and sustainable mechanisms for wildlife management, biodiversity conservation, and climate change impact mitigation.
As a result of the meeting, the governments of Mozambique and the United Arab Emirates agreed to set up a joint technical team responsible for implementing the action plan set out in the memorandum of understanding on the environment and biodiversity, signed during the last visit of the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, to the United Arab Emirates.
