The Mozambican and Portuguese governments will sign a memorandum of understanding next week in Portugal to facilitate the emigration of Mozambican citizens to work in Portugal, it was announced today.
The agreement, according to a source at the Mozambican Ministry of Labour and Social Security, will be signed during the working visit that the Mozambican minister, Margarida Adamugi Talapa, will make to Portugal from 11 to 13 September, at the invitation of her Portuguese counterpart, Ana Mendes Godinho.
The main purpose of the trip “is to sign a memorandum of understanding” between Mozambique’s Ministry of Labour and Social Security and Portugal’s Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, “in the field of labour mobility and to open up the possibility of sending Mozambican citizens to work in Portugal”.
“This memorandum of understanding will contribute to strengthening the friendly relations and co-operation between the two states, namely by regulating legal migration channels, particularly for salaried workers,” said the same source.
He added that both ministries will also sign a memorandum of understanding in the field of development cooperation, with the aim of “strengthening their relations within the framework of common attributions, namely in the areas of social security, labour relations and working conditions,” for the period 2022-2026.
