Mozambique and Indonesia Create Multisectoral Task Force to Boost Development

The governments of Mozambique and Indonesia have set up a multisectoral task force with the aim of boosting development between the two nations. The task force was launched by the Indonesian Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Pandjaitan, and the Mozambican Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum 2024, taking place in Bali, the Mozambican minister said that the task force had materialised on the basis of talks and meetings held in August 2023 by Presidents Filipe Nyusi and Joko Widodo.

Zacarias, quoted by the Club of Mozambique, emphasised that the priority areas that deserve the most attention had been determined, in particular the energy, mining, transport, health, fishing and infrastructure sectors.

For his part, the Indonesian government official explained that the two countries will work together to provide a fair energy transition, focusing on renewable sources, innovation and the development of human resources.

‘We intend to invest in building economic centres, roads, seaports and airports. These infrastructures are important because they help improve logistics, supply chains and connectivity,’ he said.

Luhut Pandjaitan said that he hopes the task force will play a very significant role and really contribute not only to strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Mozambique, but also to equal and sustainable growth.
