The Mozambican executive and the European Union (EU) signed an agreement this Wednesday (21) in Maputo on the Military Training Status of the European Union (EU) Training Mission in the country.
The agreement formalises the EU Military Mission’s stay in Mozambique for another two years.
The Mozambican Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, praised the EU for its contribution to the fight against terrorism in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
‘The agreement is very important. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your dedication to training our young people, but also for your support in the fight against terrorism,’ said Macamo.
For his part, the EU representative in Mozambique, Antonino Maggiore, said that the signing of the agreement was a significant moment in the context of the political partnership between Mozambique and the EU.
‘It’s a very close partnership, 360 degrees of support to the country for development in the context of the major security challenge in northern Cabo Delgado,’ said Maggiore.
He also said that the extension of the EU Military Training Mission for another two years expresses the will to strengthen the partnership.
It should be noted that so far the EU has not commented on any possible lethal intervention in the fight against terrorism in Mozambique.
