Mozambique and Eswatini Strengthen Police Cooperation to Combat Cross-Border Crime

Police authorities in Mozambique and Eswatini are strengthening security cooperation to intensify the fight against cross-border crime. The issue is at the center of the working visit to Mozambique by the national commissioner of the Royal Eswatini Police Service, Manoma Vusi Masango.

The visit includes bilateral talks between Manoma Vusi Masango and the Chief of Police of the Republic of Mozambique, Inspector General Joaquim Adriano Sive. The meetings are part of the two countries’ efforts to deepen cooperation in the field of law enforcement, with the aim of also strengthening regional security.

The Eswatini police delegation is composed of several senior officers from the force. Among the members are Senior Deputy National Commissioner Emmanuel Sula Dlamini and Deputy National Commissioner Mumcy Dlamini. The delegation also includes Assistant Commissioner Lisborn Mabuza, Senior Administration Officer, and Inspector Welcome Shongwe.

Upon arrival in Mozambique, the delegation was welcomed at the Goba border post by several national authorities. Among them were the provincial commander of Maputo, Rosário Mitaio, and Deputy Commissioner Aina Sualeila Combo, from the Embassy in Maputo. Also present were Deputy Superintendent Caina Nguirande and the head of immigration, Omaro Adriss.

According to authorities, discussions between the two police services focus on strengthening cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime. Among the crimes analyzed are illegal immigration, cattle theft, and smuggling of goods. Drug trafficking, firearms trafficking, and cases involving stolen vehicles are also on the agenda.

During the meetings, authorities from both countries will also evaluate the possibility of conducting joint operations and coordinated investigations. The cooperation aims to improve the exchange of information between police services, with a view to strengthening crime prevention mechanisms in border areas.

The working visit is expected to conclude with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries, a document that aims to formalize the strengthening of police cooperation between Mozambique and Eswatini.

With this agreement, the authorities hope to strengthen the joint response to the security challenges affecting the region.
