The governments of Mozambique and Botswana have called for the urgent implementation of decisions taken during the ninth ministerial session of the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC), held on 23 and 24 September in Gaborone, with the stated aim of translating commitments into concrete projects and tangible benefits for their populations.
According to a statement from the Botswana government, the appeal was made at the closing of the ministerial session of the JPCC — the bilateral platform through which the two countries assess the state of their relations, identify areas of common interest, and define measures to deepen cooperation.
During the meeting, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across trade, investment, agriculture, energy, security, and infrastructure development.
At the closing session, Botswana’s acting Minister of International Relations, Pius Mokgware, argued that the success of bilateral cooperation must be measured by its positive impact on the lives of citizens. He called on ministries and institutions in both countries to accelerate the implementation of decisions taken and ensure that commitments translate into concrete outcomes.
Mokgware also stressed the need for greater private sector participation, arguing that stronger government-to-government relations should create new opportunities for businesses and investors on both sides. The minister noted that the political relationship provides a foundation for cooperation, but that growth in trade, investment, and business partnerships would generate greater economic value for both parties.
Cooperation in agriculture, energy, and infrastructure was also identified as a key avenue for deepening economic ties and stimulating new investment flows.
The ninth session of the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation concluded with a joint commitment to accelerate the execution of decisions reached, placing implementation firmly at the centre of the bilateral agenda between Botswana and Mozambique.
