Marracuene Municipality Launches Municipal Portal and Free Internet in Town Garden to Promote Digital Inclusion

The Marracuene Municipality, in Maputo province, took a decisive step this week in its technological modernization and digital inclusion process, with the launch of the new Municipal Portal and the provision of free internet in the town garden.

According to a report by the Mozambican News Agency, the initiatives were announced during the opening of the first edition of the Mozambique Entrepreneur Fair (FEMOC), held over two days (December 5–6) in the municipality’s main town, bringing together young entrepreneurs, public institutions, and private partners.

The announcement was made by the Councillor for Economic Activities, Transport, Communication, Traffic, and Tourism, Maghivelane Simão, who described the two projects as key milestones in building a more modern, open, and connected municipality. “From today, the Municipal Garden becomes a true Digital Square, with free internet accessible to all. Alongside this, we launch our portal, which will serve as the gateway to modern, fast, and secure services,” stated the official.

The new Municipal Portal will allow residents to schedule appointments, access administrative information, listen to the Macaneta News podcast, pay fees and taxes, request the NUIT, and perform other essential operations, a change that brings Marracuene closer to a more efficient and inclusive model of public administration.

FEMOC also served as a platform to strongly encourage the formalization of businesses. In his speech, Simão emphasized that a large portion of the country’s economic activity remains informal, limiting access to financing, institutional opportunities, and legal protection. “Formalizing is gaining a voice, gaining a market, gaining a future. It is transforming talent into real opportunities, built with security and institutional support,” declared the councillor, adding that the municipality is working with other state entities to simplify processes and remove barriers.

The intervention also highlighted the crucial role of young entrepreneurs in stimulating the local economy, praising FEMOC mentors and noting that the fair demonstrates confidence in young talent, local innovation, and Marracuene’s potential as a land of opportunities.

The launch of the Digital Square was supported by Bravantic, the municipality’s technology partner, which enabled free internet access to promote digital inclusion, expand educational opportunities, and encourage innovation among local youth and entrepreneurs.

“Internet is expensive, but today we make it accessible. This is a direct investment in the youth and the future of Marracuene,” emphasized the official.

With training panels, debates, and capacity-building activities, FEMOC — organized by VVJ Produções in partnership with Grupo Evolution and the Marracuene Municipality — has established itself as a space for sharing, inspiration, and partnership creation, within the broader process of digital transformation.
