Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verônica Macamo, will be visiting the United States of America (USA) from the 26th to the 29th to take part in the last debate of the Mozambican presidency of the United Nations Security Council.
‘Minister Macamo will lead the last debate of the Mozambican presidency of the Security Council, on the theme “Maintenance of international peace and security: the role of women and youth”, scheduled for 28 May,’ reads a government statement sent to the media today.
During the four days, Verônica Macamo will also have audiences with ‘high-level entities’ from the United Nations (UN), the document adds.
The Mozambican leader is visiting the US accompanied by Pedro Comissário, Mozambique’s permanent representative to the United Nations, and José Morais, director of the directorate for international organisations and conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
On the 1st, Mozambique took over the monthly presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, during which Africa is a top priority, with several meetings addressing peace, security and development on the African continent.
As president of the Security Council this month, Mozambique issued a presidential statement reiterating support for the objectives set out in the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and encouraging global partnerships to accelerate their implementation, as well as supporting the initiative on Silencing the Guns in Africa and the African Continental Free Trade Area.
