Maputo Hospital Records 294 Patient Admissions Over New Year’s Eve

At least 294 patients were admitted to Maputo Central Hospital (HCM), the largest health unit in Mozambique, during the New Year, including 19 victims of road accidents.

This was made known by the director-general of the HCM, Mouzinho Saíde, on Monday morning, 2 January, during a debriefing on the main occurrences in the last 24 hours at the hospital.

“There have been aviation accidents. This year we’ve had 19 cases compared to 12 road accidents last year. Two are still hospitalised and have undergone surgery, two are still in our observation service at the Aid Bank and will be hospitalised, but the rest have been discharged,” explained Mouzinho Saíde, quoted by the Mozambican Information Agency.

According to the official, despite the number of cases registered, the transition this year has been smooth compared to last year. “For HCM, in general we can say that it was a peaceful New Year’s Eve, because our patients were satisfied with the care they had come for and we found teams that were well motivated and available to work.”
