The city and province of Maputo have been facing water restrictions since dawn on Wednesday (6), due to electricity fluctuations that have affected the Umbeluzi Water Treatment Plant, according to the newspaper Noticias.
The information was released by the company Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo (AdRMM), which details that the electrical faults in the station’s supply line have caused limitations in water distribution capacity in several neighbourhoods.
According to the official note issued by AdRMM, the electrical cuts have resulted in pockets of water shortages and low pressure at various points in the supply network. The company said that the situation may persist until electrical stability is restored, although it did not give a specific deadline for normalising the supply.
In response, AdRMM assured that technical teams are on the ground to minimise the impacts and restore service as quickly as possible. ‘We are working intensively to resolve the situation and ensure that the water supply is normalised,’ the company said in its statement.
AdRMM also appealed for understanding from the residents affected and advised the population to carefully manage the water available until the system returns to normal.
