The province of Manica, in the centre of the country, reached an estimated overall production of 85.3 billion meticals last year, a growth of 3.9% compared to 2021, which recorded a production of 82.1 billion meticais.
The figures were announced on Wednesday (28), in Chimoio, by the provincial director for Planning and Finance of Manica, Nuromomad Tomé Hassamo, during the 17th plenary session of the province’s Development Observatory.
According to the provincial executive, the level of achievement in 2022 was 95.7%, with the agriculture, animal production and forestry sectors contributing the most to raising local production.
“These sectors accounted for 51.6 percent of production, followed by trade with 13 percent and transport and storage with 12.5 percent,” he said.
Cited by the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM), Hassamo explained that in 2022 the province collected tax revenues of 38.59 billion meticais, or 51.2 percent.
On the same occasion, the governor of Manica province, Francisca Tomás, challenged her executive to work towards improving the living conditions of the population.
“Our essential objective is to serve the communities, to bring the basic services closer to the population. We know that there are challenges such as the improvement of access roads, the provision of more drinking water to the population, the increase of agricultural production and the provision of health, education and energy services, among others”, she said.
