The National Road Transport Institute (INATRO) has announced the temporary suspension of services for issuing driving licences and number plates, due to a technical fault in the optical fibre of Mozambique Telecom (Tmcel), the public company responsible for ensuring the institute’s connectivity.
According to information published by the newspaper O País, the institution announced the suspension this Monday (26) in a statement.
In the document, INATRO said that there is still no forecast for the normalisation of services, and so far it has not presented any palliative measures to minimise the impact of the interruption, having merely apologised for the inconvenience caused, without offering a specific date for resolving the problem.
INATRO is a category ‘A’ public institution, with legal, administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy, whose mission is to regulate, inspect and supervise road activities in Mozambique.
The organisation’s main objective is to ensure that the mobility needs of people and goods are met with quality and safety. The current suspension of services raises concerns about the continuity of essential operations, which directly affect users and the country’s road system.
