The President of the Republic (PR), Daniel Chapo, announced, through presidential decrees, the dismissal and appointment of new leaders in several public universities across the country. The changes affect rectors and vice-rectors and are part of a restructuring process aimed at bringing new dynamism to the management of higher education institutions, reported the newspaper Notícias.
At Lúrio University (UniLúrio), Rector Leda Florinda Hugo was dismissed and replaced by Eusébio Victor Macete, now appointed as the new rector of the institution. This decision is part of a broader set of changes promoted by the Head of State in the academic sector.
At Zambeze University (UniZambeze), Bettencourt Capece left the position of rector, and Luís Miguel Estêvão Cristóvão was appointed to replace him. In the same institution, Vice-Rector Anabela Matangue Zacarias da Silva was replaced by Alexandre Hilário Monteiro Baia.
Meanwhile, at Joaquim Chissano University (UJC), Vice-Rector Ana Maria Nhampule was dismissed and replaced by Carlos Shenga. This measure is part of the same effort to reorganize the leadership of public universities.
At Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), Vice-Rector Joel Maurício das Neves Tembe was replaced by Mohsin Mahomed Sidat, as part of the recent changes promoted by the President of the Republic. According to the presidential decrees, all newly appointed university leaders are expected to take office this Wednesday, October 8, at the Presidency of the Republic.
These new appointments mark the beginning of a new leadership cycle in Mozambique’s main public higher education institutions.
