The government is going to turn the National Development Strategy (ENDE) 2025-2044 into law, thus creating a macro-planning instrument that reflects the understanding of the different segments of the population on the paths and priorities for the country’s development over the next 20 years. The information was released this Wednesday, 12 March, by the Agência de Informação de Moçambique.
According to the agency, on Tuesday (11 March) the Council of Ministers approved the Strategy proposal, which will now be submitted to the Assembly of the Republic (AR). Government spokesman Inocêncio Impissa was responsible for announcing the fact during the usual press briefing, held after the end of the Council’s 7th ordinary session.
ENDE aims to promote sustainable, inclusive, equitable and resilient development in the country, with an emphasis on economic growth, improving citizens’ quality of life and reducing inequalities.
In June 2024, the government had already approved the same strategy (ENDE 2025-2044), but according to Impissa, who also holds the post of Minister of State Administration and Civil Service, various factors led to the instrument being re-evaluated. Among the main ones were the violent post-election demonstrations that broke out in mid-October, seriously affecting the main vectors of the national economy.
The budget needed to implement ENDE will come from public strategies and policies, as well as sectoral programmes that will be developed over the course of the Strategy.
