The Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday, 30 January, set the new dates for voter registration in the country. The process will run from 15 March to 28 April 2024.
“In the diaspora, the vote will take place from 30 March to 28 April 2024,” said a press release.
The Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique recently approved a change to the voter registration timetable, making room for extending the dates for registering voters for the general elections on 9 October.
Meeting in an extraordinary session called for one day and with a single agenda item, the three caucuses that make up the Mozambican parliament approved the change to the registration period in general, in particular and by consensus.
According to Mozambican electoral legislation, the dates for voter registration are set by the government, on a proposal from the National Electoral Commission (CNE), and it is up to parliament to approve rules that define the deadlines that must be met by the electoral calendar.
The seventh general elections (presidential, legislative and provincial) are valued at 6 billion meticais.
