One day after taking office, the new Mozambican President, Daniel Chapo, decided to create new ministries and extinguish all the previous ones.
According to a document from the Press Office of the Presidency of the Republic sent to DE, the head of state, Daniel Chapo, ordered the extinction of the following ministries: the Economy and Finance; Transport and Communications; Culture and Tourism; Agriculture and Rural Development; Land and Environment; Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries; Industry and Commerce; Labour and Social Security; Education and Human Development; and Science, Technology and Higher Education.
Furthermore, under the same Presidential Decree, Daniel Chapo extinguished the following institutions: Secretary of State for Youth and Employment; Sports; and Technical-Vocational Education.
As he promised on the day he took office, the new head of state decided to reduce the number of ministries, creating the following: Ministry of Finance; Economy; Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries; Transport and Logistics; Education and Culture; Labour, Gender and Social Action; Communications and Digital Transformation; Planning and Development; and Youth and Sports.
With these reforms, the President intends to set a reformist tone at the start of his term, focusing on modernising the state, stimulating the economy and rigorous management of public resources. The impact of these measures will now be assessed by their implementation and the results they will bring to Mozambicans.
On Friday, the new ministers will be announced and it will be then that the new dynamic brought about by the presentation of the government’s programme will begin to be seen.
