Mozambique’s Minister of Planning and Development, Salim Valá, led the Mozambican delegation that participated in the 2026 Global Forum on Poverty Reduction and Development, held in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, from May 26 to 28, where he highlighted the cooperation between Mozambique and China in combating poverty.
Mozambique took part in the international event as a co-founding country of the Global Partnership for Poverty Alleviation and Development (GPPAD), an initiative promoted by China and launched within the framework of the forum.
Under the theme “Joining Global Efforts to Promote Poverty Reduction,” the forum brought together high-level government representatives, international organizations, research centres, experts, academics, and private sector stakeholders to discuss strategies and public policies aimed at poverty reduction and sustainable development.
According to a statement consulted by DE, the event was organized by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and is considered one of the most relevant international platforms for dialogue and cooperation on poverty, social inclusion, and sustainable development, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
On the sidelines of the forum, Salim Valá argued that China’s experience in agricultural modernization can help developing countries fight poverty and expand employment opportunities.
The minister also stressed that this cooperation has helped strengthen technical capacity and support small-scale farmers through initiatives such as the “Bridge to Africa” project.
Salim Valá further highlighted that these actions contribute to increasing productivity in crops such as cereals, vegetables, and tubers, based on Chinese expertise in mechanization, irrigation, and rural extension services.
