The Government on Friday (24) called for strengthened “solidary multilateral cooperation” with the United Nations (UN) to address global humanitarian crises, urging for strategies and actions that foster the development of youth, girls, and children, according to Lusa.
“As we reflect on the UN’s 80 years and 50 years of independence and cooperation, we clearly see the need to reaffirm solidary multilateralism to face global challenges such as climate crises and the movements that affect us,” said Mozambique’s Minister of Education and Culture, Samaria Tovela, during the opening ceremony of United Nations Day in Maputo.
Among the main concerns, she highlighted terrorism and social inequalities, stressing that these issues require “collective, united action and, above all, a strategy that promotes development focused on young people.”
According to the minister, young people “are the ones who will ultimately carry forward the development of nations,” emphasizing that cooperation between Mozambique and the UN should focus on youth, girls, and children—particularly in the education sector—to advance the Government’s 2030 agenda.
“We especially want to enhance efficiency within the United Nations system, in the work carried out at national, regional, and global levels—reviewing or updating existing mandates and, above all, addressing the real challenges faced by our population, our people, and the world at large,” added Samaria Tovela.
She reaffirmed Mozambique’s interest in cooperating “side by side” with international partners in pursuit of the continuous development of nations.
