The Government, through the Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Action (MTGAS), has assured that the National Social Security Institute (INSS) continues to operate normally and that the pension system remains stable, despite the arrest of several officials as part of an ongoing judicial investigation.
According to an official statement reviewed by Diário Económico (DE), MTGAS stated that it is fully cooperating with the authorities to ensure the “swift clarification of the facts,” reaffirming its commitment to legality, transparency, and the proper management of public resources.
The Ministry also guaranteed that the functioning of INSS will not be affected, with the “regular payment of pensions and continued service to beneficiaries” being maintained.
In this context, the institution further reaffirmed its confidence “in the robustness of the social protection system and in its ability to continue responding safely and reliably to the needs of its users.”
The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) detained, this Monday (6), the Director-General of INSS, Joaquim Siúta, as part of a case related to alleged corruption crimes. According to information obtained by the Mozambique News Agency, the Director of the INSS Department of Administration and Finance, a technician from the institution’s Procurement Management Unit (UGEA), and a businessman were also arrested.
According to the authorities, the four suspects are accused of involvement in the manipulation of public tenders, with the aim of diverting state funds.
