Several families have begun leaving their homes in the city of Maxixe, in Inhambane Province, as a precautionary measure against Cyclone Gezani, which is expected to affect the region. Most of those evacuating live in fragile housing along the coastline and are seeking safer locations away from areas at higher risk of flooding and strong winds.

Although many are uncertain about the conditions of the places they are heading to, the families say they are determined to avoid the hardships experienced in previous years, when cyclones put their lives at risk and destroyed their homes and belongings.
The Municipality of Maxixe has made transportation available to assist with the relocation of residents, at a time when rainfall has already begun, heightening concerns about the storm’s potential impact.
