The Minister of Justice and Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Mateus Saize, says that it is not normal to use real bullets to contain demonstrations. Saize warns that, in the event of disorderly situations, the government advises the use of rubber bullets and tear gas.
The wave of demonstrations throughout most of the country, especially in the capital, has raised many questions about the actions of the Mozambique Republic Police. The force is accused of using real bullets to disperse the demonstrators, causing deaths and injuries. Reacting to the issue, the Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs called for rationality.
Regarding the pardons granted by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo to some people who were arrested during the demonstrations, Saize says that they have not yet been decreed.
Mateus Saize was speaking on Sunday on the sidelines of the celebration of the fiftieth episcopal anniversary of the Bishop Emeritus of Pemba, Mgr Januário Nhangumbe.
