The presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, this Saturday, 26 October, called for the opposition parties to unite and criticise the results of the 9 October general elections announced by the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Lusa reported .
‘All the presidents of the competing opposition parties are to be congratulated. They have a perfect attitude and I would like to take this opportunity, in public, to congratulate them and say that I am totally available for us to fight this fight together with the aim of safeguarding electoral truth,’ said Venâncio Mondlane, in a statement on his Facebook account.
The position comes after the leaders of several opposition parties, including Ossufo Momade, leader of the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo), and Lutero Simango, leader of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), other of the four presidential candidates, announced that they do not recognise the election results announced by the CNE, which still have to be validated and proclaimed by the Constitutional Council, which give victory to the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo, in power) and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo (70.67%).
‘We also have the conditions here, as the opposition, to form a single front, with the same ideals, fighting for this people, instead of being divided,’ said Venâncio Mondlane in the same speech, who since Monday (21) has said he is in an “uncertain location” for security reasons, once again labelling the elections as “fraudulent and rigged”.
