On Sunday (27), the National Electoral Commission (CNE) submitted the data from the national centralisation and general tabulation of results to the Constitutional Council (CC) for validation and proclamation of the winners of the 9 October elections, reports O País newspaper .
‘For the purposes of validating and proclaiming the election results, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) is sending the CC the minutes and the call for the national centralisation and general tabulation of the results of the election in question, approved by CNE Resolution 105 for 2024, of 24 October,’ said Dom Carlos Matsinhe, the body’s president.
Also on Monday, the CNE delivered the notices of the general tabulation of the election of deputies to the Assembly of the Republic and the provincial assemblies, as well as the respective distribution of mandates and the list of list leaders of the most voted parties.
The president of the CC, Lúcia Ribeiro, assured at the time that the legal rules for analysing and discussing the results would be followed.
‘The Constitutional Council, in this validation process, has its own procedures. At the moment, it is still finalising the electoral litigation processes, still relating to the district and provincial counts. And then there will certainly be some appeals against this general tabulation,’ emphasised Lúcia Ribeiro.
On Thursday (24), the CNE announced the victory of Daniel Chapo, the Frelimo candidate, in the Mozambican President election, with 70.67 per cent of the votes, results that still have to be validated by the CC.
Venâncio Mondlane, supported by the Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (Podemos), an extra-parliamentary party, came second with 20.32%, totalling 2.9 million votes, but said he did not recognise these results, which still have to be validated and proclaimed by the Constitutional Council.
