More than 17 million Mozambicans will choose a new President of the Republic this Wednesday, 9 October, in general elections, but publication of the results by the National Electoral Commission (CNE), if there is no second round, will take up to 15 days before they are validated by the Constitutional Council, the Lusa news agency reported today (8).
According to Law 15/2024 of 23 August, which was the subject of a one-off revision in parliament, the partial tabulation takes place as soon as the polls close, and a copy of the original notice is published, ‘duly signed and stamped at the polling station’, with the number of votes for each candidate, blank votes and invalid votes.
‘The minutes and the notice of the partial tabulation must be posted at the polling station in a place accessible to the public by the respective president,’ states article 94 of the electoral law, quoted by Lusa.
