Gaza: ITRANSMAR Assures That Indian Ship Grounded at Chidenguele Poses No Danger

Maritime authorities have assured that the Indian-flagged cargo ship grounded off Chidenguele Beach, in the Manjacaze district of Gaza province, poses no threat to public safety, the environment, or local tourism activities, according to Notícias newspaper.

The information comes from a statement released by the Maritime Transport Regulatory Authority (ITRANSMAR), which confirms that the vessel — identified as Badra Nijha, IMO number 1139444 — suffered a technical malfunction on Thursday afternoon and was subsequently driven to the coastal area, where it remains immobilized.

According to the note, the vessel departed from the Port of Durban, South Africa, bound for Nigeria, as part of an international commercial route. Following the alert, a joint team composed of technicians from ITRANSMAR, the Maritime Administration, and representatives of local tourist resorts was deployed to the site to conduct a preliminary assessment of the incident.

“The ship is stable and awaiting specialized technical assistance. So far, no fuel spills or any other incidents have been reported that could endanger the marine ecosystem or public safety,” the document emphasizes.

Maritime authorities continue to monitor the area and call for calm, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken in coordination with competent national and international entities to ensure the safe removal of the vessel and the restoration of normal conditions.
