Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential elections, held on Tuesday 5 November. In a message broadcast on Radio Moçambique, Nyusi highlighted the long-standing relations of cooperation between Mozambique and the US, which date back to before Mozambican independence in 1975.
On behalf of the Mozambican people and government, Nyusi sent ‘warm congratulations’ to the new President-elect and the American people, valuing the ‘peaceful, fair, orderly and transparent’ nature of the US electoral process.
In his message, the head of state emphasised that Trump’s victory reflects ‘the confidence that the American people have in his commitment to building a strong, safe and prosperous America.’
Nyusi also expressed his best wishes for good health and success for the new President’s term in office, reinforcing the Mozambican government’s willingness to work with the new US administration to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The statement also included a personal note from Nyusi, published on his Facebook page, in which he wrote:
“I have followed with great interest the electoral process in the USA, a strategic partner of Mozambique, whose relations with our people date back to before independence in 1975. On behalf of the people and government of Mozambique, I express our warmest congratulations to you and the American people on a peaceful, fair, orderly and transparent election. Your resounding victory demonstrates the confidence that the American people have in your ability and commitment to realise their aspirations to build a strong, secure and prosperous America.”
Nyusi concludes the message by reaffirming the desire for bilateral cooperation and Mozambique’s commitment to collaborate with the Trump administration on issues of mutual interest. ‘Accept, Excellency, the assurance of my highest consideration and personal esteem,’ the President concluded.
