The European Union Training Mission Mozambique (EUTM MOZ) hosted the monthly Political and Security Councillors Meeting of the European Union (EU) Member States Embassies and Diplomatic Missions in Mozambique, on May 11, 2023.
EUTM MOZ Mission Force Commander (MFCdr), Commodore Martins de Brito, welcomed representatives from the EU Delegation in Mozambique, led by Duarte Graça, and the Political and Security Councillors of the 11 EU Member States Embassies and Diplomatic Missions represented in Mozambique, to the Headquarters in Maputo and to the Katembe Training Camp.
The EUTM MOZ Command Group provided an overview on EUTM MOZ’ roles, capabilities, mission, current activities and the main ongoing projects within the Headquarters and the three training camps located in Katembe, Chimoio and Mavalane.
The visit was useful opportunity to describe the councillors how EUTM MOZ is contributing to the capability building of the Mozambican armed forces’ units, selected to compose future Quick Reaction Forces (QRF).
The EU Political and Security Councillors in Mozambique visited the Training Camp in Katembe and observed some of the training activities, experiencing the camp’s atmosphere.
The EUTM MOZ has 118 military and civilian personnel from 12 European Union member states – Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden.
The EUTM MOZ mission is to provide training and support to the Mozambican armed forces to protect the civilian population and restore security in the Cabo Delgado province. The mission has a non-executive mandate and will end two years after the mission has reached Full Operational Capability. The EUTM MOZ is one of the tools to address the crisis in Cabo Delgado, in conjunction with support for peacebuilding, conflict prevention and dialogue support, humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.
